my ipod 4 gen got a red screen

someone please help, i'm halfway to an emotional breakdown.

i got this ipod 4 gen today, it's white if that matters.

i was updating itunes so i could put music on it and i was also downloading a game, i pluged in the usb connector so it could charge, and about 15 minuted later, the screen turned a scarlet red and then to a white, so i restarted it. not it has boxes around the icons and i can click anything normally. please help me.

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1, i tried restarting it several times

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
