I bought a mac air (at eaton center in Toronto) last april. It says that it is a mid 2011 model. On the preference>display there is no mirroring option. Does this mean that the laptop I bought less than a year ago is already obsolete? Any suggestion would be really welcome. Thanks

You need OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) to use the AirPlay Mirroring feature

OMG!! THANK YOU! I purchased an AppleTV box today, and I've been in agony for hours on end trying all sorts of 'fixes" found on the internet. The entire time, I kept wondering, "Why, oh why does this not work when my Macbook Pro was purchased in 2011?" Welp, it was as just you said, Mountain Lion is required as well! Lion 10.7.5 won't cut it! Unfortunately, that means I was just drained of another $20 by Apple in order to download it, but that's life, right? Thanks again!
