What is deemed "catastrophic damage" for OOW repair?

So my iPad (3rd Gen 64gb + Verizon) flew off my trunk when I carelessly left it there before I left my garage.

Needless to say the screen is crushed. The unit still has power and I was able to locate it via GPS. But there are pieces of the screen that have come off. The back panel is dinged up but still in 1 piece and appears to be structurally sound.

I failed to purchase Apple Care + with this iPad and i am just curious if I will be able to bring this into an Apple Store for an Out of Warranty Repair or if I am out of luck due to the damage?

Thanks

I believe their only condition is that it is in one piece, which you said it was. You should qualify for an out of warranty ($299) replacement.
