I can not start my mac

I have tried option key and cmd r keys. NO entry sign come always.

I had mac leopard in my mac. I updating it to lion. Then I canceled the lion installation in middle. And open disk utility and erased HD because I wanted to do clean install. After that I could not open disk utility not even boot the mac.

Now when I start the mac, sound comes and then gray screen and no entery sign and nothing happen.

If I press option key, it shows the mac os lion which I trying to install, if I click on that, its goes again to gray screen and no entery sign.

please assist me.

Several questions ...

Which mac system are you working on?

Do you have a bootable backup you can use?

Do you do have the original OS X disks that came with your system or the retail version for OS X 10.5 Leopard?

Are you trying to use one of those to boot from?

Lion came as a download or on a USB memory stick, what are you using? How do you know it's bootable?
