can the other person know if you muted them on FaceTime?

The person would not know that you have muted them but they would probably find out if they don't hear anything while your mouth is like you are talking to somebody.

To mute them you would just be turning down the volume on your computer or device, and no, they wouldn't know you have turned down the volume.

Testing muting myself (so they can't hear me), they appear to have no visual indication of that either, but of course they can no longer hear me.
