help please

i have just received my imac after installing the new Hard disc (requested by Apple to replace). My iPhoto which was 09 and now I see 11(don't know why?) is not showing all the photos. i tried repair and rebuild and re everything and nothing is working. itunes is also not displaying properly the side coloumn. all my work is in iphoto. i do have an external disc back but don't know what to do.
