My I-pod will not sync with the i-tunes on my pc. What can I do?

I have recently added some CDs to my i-tunes and tried to sync my i-pod but it gets to the second track and freezes. Therefore, it does not proceed any further and so I have a version of i-tunes on my pc which is different to my i-pod and I cannot sync any more music. What should I do?
