Epson V370 scanner usable ONLY by Epson Scan?

My old Epson Perfection 3200 scanner has developed some vertical scratches and I am replacing it with a new Epson Perfection V370 Photo. It has a USB interface. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.4, and the box says it is compatible with 10.5.x, 10.6.x, 10.7.x and 10.8.x. I did a default installation with the CD, i.e. installed everything. I rebooted.

The scanner is visible in the USB tree in System Information.

The scanner works with Epson's own supplied software, Epson Scan.App.

However:

--it is not visible in Image Capture

--it is not visible in System Preferences Print and Fax (which continues to show the old scanner, Epson Perfection 3200, and shows no scanners available to add if I try to add one)

--is is not visible in Hamrick VueScan

I just purchased an Epson Perfection 370 today, and got it working with the latest version of VueScan. The solution was to download and install the most recent driver package from Epson.

Here's my environment:

- MacBook Pro 15", Late 2008 / 2.66 GHz Intel Core @ Duo

- OSX 10.9.4

- Hamrick VueScan 9.4.37 (from download vuex3294.dmg )

- Epson Perfection v370, with drivers from Epson15872.dmg, obtained from opendrivers.com

At this instant the scanner does not show up in Image Capture, or in the Printers & Scanners control panel. These are minor quibbles to me, Hamrick VueScan is the BEST scanner software I've ever encountered. Hope this helps!
