i want to sync my ipod with the new itunes but i cant unlock my passcode without the screen turning on, what to do?

recently my ipod touch 2nd generation screen hasnt been turning on at all,i've tried the home screen button and power button but even that doesnt work,... i have updated my itunes to the newest version but i cannot sync it without unlocking my passcode how can i go into recovery mode or simply back up my ipod if there is no way to unlock it?

iPod touch, Windows 7

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
