How to update apps in itunes 11

Cannot find in Itunes 11 how to update apps. The phone indicates availble updates, which I can do directly on the phone. in itunes 10 you could update apps and save the cellular data. I cannot find it.

You got the line that says "All, iPhone/iPod touch, iPad, etc." because you clicked on "Apps" in the sidebar. This is useful for updating your apps, but not for looking into all the different stuff that's on your phone. In order to get into the "summary, info, apps, etc." pages, you need to plug your iPhone into the USB port and then click on your iPhone name listed in the DEVICES section in the sidebar (a few lines down from the "Apps" line). Once you highlight your iPhone name, you'll see the categories that you mentioned at top center.

The greyed-out 'Get Info' you mentioned is something completely different. It's for getting information on various items in your iTunes library. You also can trigger it by typing "%I", just like in the Mac OS Finder. However, you have to click on something to tell the S/W what you want info on (i.e., click on a file icon in the Finder, click on a song in iTunes, etc.).

At long last I think all the pieces have fallen into place. The missing one was/is that you have to transfer your purchases from your iphone (ipod/ipad/what not) the frist time you set up on your new computer. I had the same screen and issue that loooool12345678 and it was resolved (finally) by doing the transfer - thanks to the apple support line.

FILE/DEVICES/TRANSFER PURCHASES FROM [your device]

Once it gets going you will see the apps pop up on this screen and the "check for updates" button shows up at long last.

Hope this helps

none of these responses made the mentioned menu appear.

The only way I could make it work was by:

1. plugging in my iPhone

2. click on the aforementioned iPhone in the sidebar list, under "Devices"

3. go to the little gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar, and select "sync".

4. that is the only way I can find to get itunes to sync all the updated apps that are on my computer to the phone.

Been reading through this thread and all of the information has been very helpful. Thank you!

That said, I'm having a problem I've not seen anyone write about, which is the apps themselves not updating. iTunes 11 on my desktop Mac is showing 83 apps that have updates. This is the library of apps for multiple devices (iPhone, iPad, etc). All of the apps have been updated on my iPhone and iPad, but are only out of date on my desktop Mac. Of course clicking the "Update All Apps" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the apps library page seems like the obvious solution. The files download, and be monitored via the download pop-up window. However, after each app update has downloaded, iTunes 11 does not recognize the app as updated. Perhaps it is not installing the update properly? Of course I've restarted iTunes many times. I've also tried transferring purchses from my iPhone and iPad (with the updated version of the apps) to no avail. Any ideas? Your input would be much appreciated.

While current version of any mobile app is not really neccesary to have on the desktop, it seems like a master library of apps is a good idea for purposes of syncing multiple devices without the extra steps of managing the updates on each device separately. Of course if it doesn't work, then I don't see the point of iTunes managing apps at all. Perhaps it should just stick to traditional media (music, movies, tv shows, etc).

Hopefully much of this issue will be resovled in iOS7, with the automatic updates features.

I just spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to see my device info in iTunes. Finally I clicked "show sidebar" and in the Sidebar I clicked my device name, and it showed that other menu for devices.

I looked and looked. There is NO OTHER MENU OPTION to bring up your device info, except to go through the sidebar. It's a MAJOR shift in iTunes, to go from the "content centric" view to the "device centric" view. And there is no obvious button to do it.

Unbelievably bad. It's like, Apple has some insane need to make iTunes as impossible as they can make it for new users. OK, for xcode and other developer tools, I can understand this level of obscurity, ok make the developers sweat. But iTunes is something you want your grandma to be able to use to backup her new iPhone, and it is absolutely not suited for that.

I'll endure this because I want the ecosystem.

Yeah it's very convoluted on how Apple implements iPhone apps updates via iTunes. All iPhone business should be accessible on one panel... there should be another tab in the iPhone panel titled "Update apps" I shouldn't have to search the net to find out how to update apps... and it still wasn't easy after all the info was given.

Even when updating the apps via iTunes and displays "All Apps Are Up to Date"... they are not up to date on the iPhone, only in iTunes are the apps up to date... you still have to go back to the iPhone panel to click "Sync" to update the apps the iPhone. At least have some kind of message that says, "Apps not up to date on iPhone... please Sync" or something like that.
