iPad 3 iMessenger. Every contact it says "not registered". confused. please help.

Each time I try to send a message to a contact with an iPad, iMessenger tells me that it is not "registered". Does this mean that I have an incorrect email address please? I enter the contact, proceed to type a message and the "send button" fades. When I go back to the contact address, it produces a red exclamation mark with the "not registered" message. I would value some help please. thanks. I have updated to the latest iOS.

GrumpyGator said it in his post but just to make it totally clear...

The user that you want to Message with must be registered to use the Messages app on their own device. If they are not registered and do not have Messages set up on their device - you cannot contact them.

Messages only works with other iOS devices. You cannot Mesage with someone that has an Andriod phone ... iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads only ... And Macs running Mountain Lion can also use the messages app.
