Do you see the padlock icon in the upper right corner of the iPad screen? If you see the padlock icon - then the screen is actually locked.

Reset means what? Holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears - or reset all settings on the iPad - or do you mean that you restored the iPad to factory settings?

I don't mean to be redundant - I just want to make sure because you didn't say for sure that you are not seeing the padlock icon.

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.

You said that tried the side switch above the volume rocker and that wasn't it but, did you double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left?

One other thing that you can try is resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

If this doesn't work - and you are sure that all settings are correct - your next step might be to restore the iPad.
