MacBook Pro hookup to HP monitor

I've been sending DVI signal to my HP 2511x monitor. I'm trying to change to HDMI. I have new cable and adapter. Monitor is set to auto-detect any format but is displays a message that it is not getting ANY signal. Do I need to change a preference or driver on my MacBook? HP site caters only to PC's. help!

The Mac will detect the display and send signal to it automatically. However, since switching from DVI to HDMI also entails switching from analog to digital, some devices require a manual reconfig. At the office, our Panasonic projector that has both inputs requires we go into the config screen and manually switch over when we plug the boss' Retina w/HDMI to it. Your HP monitor may need something similar.
