Q: Apple TV over Yamaha v765 receiver to pioneer elite

I have a Yamaha v765 receiver going to a pioneer elite plasma via HDMI cable.  When hooking up Apple TV to receiver via HDMI I have sound that is fine but get an" illegal signal" message on the Plasma Screen.  Any ideas?
