Here are a couple of support articles that walk you through fixing it. I wasn't sure if you were using a Mac or a PC, so there's an article for each. If it still isn't working after you've gone through these steps, it's most likely a hardware issue, and I'd take it in to an Apple Store if there's one near you.

For Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

Hope this helps. : )

You might want to UPDATE the DRIVER for your iPhone in DEVICE MANAGER if you are running WIndows7.

I searched quite a few Blogs and the instructions below fixed my issue when I updated to iTunes11, Windows 7 incorrectly identifies the iPhone device as a Digital Camera.

To fix this:

- Plug in your iPhone (don’t have iTunes loaded at this time)

- Go to Device Manager (Click Start, right-click Computer, then click Properties.

In the window that appears choose “Device Manager” on the left)

- Scroll down and find “Apple iPhone” .

It will likely be under the “Portable Devices” category.

- Right-click the Apple device and choose “Update Driver Software…”

- Choose “Browse my computer for driver software” in the window that appears

- It will ask you for a location; you want to Browse to this folder (location is the same in 32 and 64 bit Windows):

32-bit and 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

- Click Next

- It should find the driver for your device; let it install that driver

Once you complete these steps, reboot your computer. Once you reboot everything should work exactly as expected!

It is not simple and I never found an Apple endorsed solution, but this worked for me, based on an excellent Blog Link from another person.

Follow the directions very carefully on the topic cited in the Link below (My Fix was found in Step 6-7, but in your case you may want to follow ALL the Steps described):

Good Luck
