My iPhone 5 headphones won't fit in my ipad mini?

mini? They fit in my iPhone though. They only go about half way and how ever hard I push, they won't go in. There is some on and off sound if I hold them a certain way. I honestly have no idea why...

I do have a set of the new iPhone earbuds that I bought to use with my iPad 3. They do work. The 3.5mm is a standard for these earpieces. They should work on your Mini - as long as there is no defect with the earphones or the Mini.

Are you using the earbuds with an iPhone? If you are and if they work, maybe there is something impeding the jack from going into the opening on the mini. Maybe yoy should look very closely at the opening - with a magnifying glass and a flashlight and maybe you can see if there is something in there.

Have you tried any other earbuds with the Mini? Any iPod or iPhone earbuds should work. Any spares lying around the house?

The iPad mini still uses a standard 1/8" or a 3.5 mm headphone jack. A standard set of headphones with 3 conductors (2 insulator bands) or an iPhone compatible headphone jack with 4 conductors (3 insulator bands) will work. The connector must be fully seated, if it will not plug in all the way the connector on the iPad is probably defective. I use both types of headphone jacks in all my iPods, iPhones and iPads.

If you are still in doubt, Apple also shows their earbuds are compatible with all their devices.

I had a similar problem last nite. I have a lead made up :. 3.5mm jack one side and it splits to 2 jacks into a mixing desk. I use the same lead on 2 ipods And a laptop. No problem.

I have a brand new iPad and it wouldn't go in. I eventually tried a better quality jack and it went in with bit of a push. I think some jacks may be slightly thicker, the cheaper ones maybe. Had me going I tell you! Thought my iPad was a dud😕

I there. It seems to be a common problem. I also cannot connect a regular iphone headphones with 4 condutors jack into my ipad mini, No matter how hard I push the jack doesn't go inside enough, I even tried by cuting a slice of the isolator of the jack because it seemed to bump on the ipad case and even like that doesn't go in enough.

The result is that the speakers of the ipad mini continue to be switched on and apperantly there is no sound on the headphones- It seems to be a pure mechanic design problem on the case, as the same headphones worked on a ipad 4.0 but again didn´t worked on an older ipad.

Any advise? Thanks

The connector is standardized and has the same dimensions whether it has 3 or 4 conductors. Normally the headphones with 4 conductors will still work even if the device supports only 3 conductors and vice versa. Some cases do interfere with some headphone jacks preventing them from going all the way in. Try removing your case to see if the headphone jack can be fully inserted. If not contact Apple since the headphone jack on your iPad must be defective.
