Will the basline MacBook Pro be fast enough for my needs?

It will be fine for editing video using iMovie. For rendering in Final Cut Pro it might take a while but it will be perfectly adequate. I can't comment on Video games.

If you're going to play games, I would suggest going to the iMac instead. The Intel HD4000 graphics in the base 13" MacBook Pro probably can run what you want, but it would have to be at fairly low resolution and detail settings. The iMac would also be more powerful for video rendering on account of its standard quad-core CPU versus the MBP's dual core.

Not the 13" no, it has lousy graphics, you will need the 15" or better, preferablly the anti-glare screen model.

Yes, absolutely. It is true that other models have "better" graphics but it is ridiculous to say the 13" has "lousy" graphics. If you have any doubts, go into an Apple Store and compare them side by side.

There are some pundits who will insist that any computer without a discrete video card (such as the iMacs and 15" MB Pro) is a lousy computer. Other pundits would suggest that any Mac is a lousy computer for playing games. It depends on what you are looking for. It depends on what you are looking for. The 13" MBP will play most games though you might have to reduce the graphic settings. I was surprised at how playable Diablo 3 is on a 2011 MBA and yes, I'd rather play it on my iMac, but on the road I'm quite happy to play it on the MBA...and happier still should Blizzard ever port it to a game console.
