Q: Why won't my Macbook Pro recognize (and connect to) a printer on same WiFi network as my Mac.

My Macbook Pro was connected and printing to my WiFi network just fine.  However, I started getting an error message saying my printer was not connected.  I checked my printer and it is still connected to wirelss network and the printer test confirmed it was with a strong signal. I have turned off and restarted both the printer and Macbook but I am still getting the same error and it will not print. I decided to delete the printer and add it back, however, when I tried to add it my Macbook didn't list this device or my label maker that is also connected to the network.  It is as though my Mac is not recognizing any devices on the network.  Could I have a setting wrong on my Macbook?  My notebook is connected to the network and it is working.  Both my printing devices show they are connected to the same network.  Help!  I would appreciate any suggestions !

I had almost the same thing happen the other day - kept getting a message that my printer was not connected. I went to the printer setup on the printer's panel and the IP address was correct, everything looked as if it should be working. So I just reset my router - figuring that would fix the problem. No go. What I finally ended up doing was resetting my router to factory settings and setting it up anew.

And that's what worked for me.

I'm having a similar problem. I just installed the printer software and it will print when connected to my laptop via a USB cable but it won't print wirelessly. In the setup I can't get past the wireless setup step because it says that (even with the Mac, using wifi, connected) no wireless connections are available. When I manually type in the name of my wireless connection it says that it's out of range even though the printer is right next to the router. I tried resetting the router and restarting the printer. Any other ideas?

I have the same problem. Both with an HP printer and a Brother printer. Both wireless, both say they are connected to the network. On two different macs we get the same error. "Printer not connected" I have uninstalled and installed every driver I could find both on HP site and the HP print scan from Apple. Nothing woirks and is very annoying. Please help.

This thread is old so don't know if my answer will help any of these people, but maybe somebody who stumbles across it currently.   I was having this issue.   When I first bought my MacBook Pro a couple months ago, printing was easy to set up and worked fine and dandy.  Then, I don't know what happened but it quit working.  I deleted the printer (Canon MG6200) and when I went to add it back, it was not in the list.  What the h___?  So I tried looking for the answers online. Finally, I turned everything off (wireless router, my box for Exede satellite internet connection, printer, and MacBook) and turned them all back on, one by one.  And it worked!  Printer is back to use on my MacBook!  The techs always say, "turn it off and then back on."  Ninety-nine times out of one hundred it works.
