May 29, 2013 2:10 PM in response to Litabelby LeMcfly,I'm not confident this a good/permanent solution, but for me the following has worked:
- open the Terminal
- go to the folder with songs that are not showing the artwork in the icon
- write touch * to update the modified time of the songs
After that the icons were showing the artwork.

Jul 30, 2013 12:14 PM in response to Litabelby northjersey,Same problem and haven't tried the fix yet, but yes, new iTunes library, finder acts correct, old iTunes library, finder doesn't show previews. This is one APPLE SHOULD FIX, just a thought. Will try the fix when I have a few hours... And thanks!

Jun 24, 2014 2:10 PM in response to Litabelby EPonthemove,Unfortunately this didn't work for me (too). Has anyone got a suggestion how to fix this? I really want to keep my intones library with it's playlists and ratings but I also want to see the album art in finder/quicklook...

Feb 11, 2016 6:51 PM in response to Litabelby ruffsson,I know this comes kind of late but I recently had the same issue and I found this thread which did not help me. However, I found a solution by myself.
First of all, I used the open source program KID3 for tagging music files and setting album artworks. As in your case, the Finder did not show any preview of my set artwork. Then I changed the text encoding of the artwork file name to ISO-8859-1 (aka Latin-1). Suddenly I could see all my album artwork correctly across all other OSX apps.
Hence, my educated guess would be that OSX Finder and some other programs except the file names to be in a certain encoding style in order to be correctly read. Therefore, I suggest the following solution:
Download KID3 or some similar tagging tool and adjust the text encoding of all files. It is an open source program and free to use. Then the actual repair fix is very easy. You open the files with KID3, mark them, and click on Tools -> Apply Text Encoding. You may have to change the default text encoding in the app's preferences but mine was fine from the beginning (until I changed it to UTF8).
