I have changed the genre for all my rock, pop, alternative, etc. to just "Rock/Pop". After updating to iTunes 11, some of the music genres in my library are "coming back". I have to go in, and set them all to "Rock/Pop" again. Any ideas why?
I have had this happen to all of my music also. Even the names of some songs are being changed back after I change them. It seems to have something to do with purchased songs only, not ones I have imported from CD.
It keeps happening to me too. There doesn't seem to be any pattern. Sometimes my genre updates stick, sometimes not. It's driving me crazy and breaking my smart playlists. Apple really needs to fix this.
Go to the Store portion of the preferences within iTunes and uncheck "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases"
If this is checked then the values you see in your iTunes is what is in the "cloud" (i.e. the iTunes Store version of the song) - your actual song file in your library remains unchanged (pull up the info for it and you should still see your custom genre, etc).
