Why does my Macbook pro 15" lose charge so fast? The computer is only a year old and lasts under an hour unplugged from full battery. It also gets VERY hot whenever I use it without the cord.

Run a #3 Hardware Test write down the error codes, backup your files off the machine, delete what you don't want seen and take it in for service.

You should also check Activity Monitor to see is a process is using up much more %CPU than it should. That would help explain both the heat and battery issue.
I can see how a dead fan might cause the heat issue, but I don't see how it would drain the battery faster.
My 13" does too... But the bat lasts 3 days in sleep.
