Delays in playing HD video content on Apple TV

Why does it take about half an hour to play about an hour of HD video on Apple TV even though its already been downloaded onto my computer. Everytime I want to watch even the same program it still takes ages getting 'ready to play' - jesh! I think i'll stick to buying discs.
