I want Iphone 5 notifications but not on the lock screen!

The thing is I don’t want any notifications to appear on the lock screen but I still want them to show up when I unlock my phone. It seems like there is no way to do it. If I set notifications’ “Alert Style” as “Alerts” but put slider “View on Lock Screen” on “Off” iPhone beeps but when I unlock it I cannot see anything!

This is so frustrating! Is this supposed to be like this?
