New iTunes - how do I play an entire album without having to go into "songs" and check all the boxes?

How do I play an entire album in iTunes 11.0 without having to go to "songs" and checking each tune, one-by-one?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I agree with many here. iTunes worked fine, excellently, for over 20 years, then they "upgraded" it, and screwed it up completely! It's a mess, and worse, the "iTunes Help" is hardly a help, when it actually opens, incomplete information, missing information, it's awful, and I, too, am looking for an alternative. I can't believe the higher-ups at Apple don't realize their programmers, hoping to earn their pay just can't help themselves from adding more bells and whistles, no matter how unnecessary, while messing up the simple, intuitive way it's worked for so many years, and stop these upgrades from being unleashed on the public.

Drag the album from the Albums view and drop it into the Up Next list in the LCD panel at the top centre of the window, then d/click the first song. Repair to your couch, open some suds, and chill with your album.

Later, when relaxed, send an email to Apple asking them to reinstate the old iTunes 10 protocol for selecting an entire album to play at the next update.

The universe will then become a better place for us all...

In the ALBUMS pane, all you have to do is double-click an album to play it.

If you single-click on an album, it will open up a drop-down showing all the songs. At the top of this drop-down next to the title, you'll see a Play arrow and a Shuffle icon. Click the arrow and the album will start playing from the first song and continue in track order. Clicking the Shuffle will start the playing from a random track and continue in shuffle.

In the ARTISTS or GENRES panes, when you mouse-over an album title, the Play arrow and Shuffle icons pop up.

Of course, you MUST have the songs checked for them to play. You should have ALL songs checked all the time and only uncheck those you never want to hear.

kilima. My situation with iTunes 11 (and that of others I have read in these forums) is that double-clicking on the album cover (in the Album view) does nothing... is not functional. Single-clicking on the album and getting the album details and contents pane (it's not a 'drop-down' menu) provides the album title with an arrow-head next to it, as you say... however, the arrowhead is also non-functional. Have I/we downloaded a corrupted version of the software, or are others experiencing this non-functionality? I am interested that yours works as I expected mine to (but doesn't), and mine does not. The work-around above is what works for me.

Please check that you have all songs CHECKED. This is why it's not working.

There is a misleading "bug" in this verson which is catching out a lot of people in that you can actually play an unchecked song by double-clicking it or placing it in the Up Next queue.

So, once again, have your songs checked and all will work. And, once again, you should have ALL your songs checked and only uncheck those you never want to hear.

Thank you. Would be useful if this was put out into the community as some sort of bulletin. Having to find out about this 'bug' in this fashion is a bit strange. Oh... by the way, I used to be able check my songs by clicking in the checkbox to the left of the title. This no longer works either (in the Song view... although the songs DO disappear when they're checked... where do they go?). Um... so how do I actually check my songs. One thing after another...

What happen when you uncheck an item in a Smart Playlist depends on whether you have the option "Match Only Checked Items". If you have that ON, the items vanishes from the playlist.

In the SONGS pane, nothing should happen. (But i did get a glitch just now when I tried and the songs dissapeared.)

To check a single item, just click in the checkbox (make sure that in View Options you have "Checked" checked).

For mutiple items, just select the mutliple items and CMD-Click any any of the checkboxs to toggle the checkmark. (Well, that's what's supposed to happen, but there's another bug and the action is not confined to the selection, unless you have made the selection via the Column Browser).

Hope that helps 🙂

It seems ridiculous that I should have to go through thousands of songs and check every song, when they were already checked in the previous version. I can't find an easy way to check them all. When I select all and click edit, I can either undo check all or redo check all. When I redo check all it only checks the few songs that were previously checked. Can anyone help me with this? Am I missing a simpler way?
