Missing Finder
My finder has disappeared from the dock and when I quit all applications, only my dock shows. My top bar disappears and my desktop is clean. What do I do? It is a 10.7.3 Mac OS X Lion.

Hi, see if this works...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
Safe Boot won't open for some reason. Is there another way? Also, I can't put any files on my desktop. Everything, even my Macintosh HD is gone.
WE might be able to do it in Single User Mode, but what shws as boot choices if you hold Option or alt key at boot up?
Does CMD+r on bootup et you to your Restore Partition to us Dsk Utility?
I have tried command+r and I managed to repair and verify hard drive, but nothing changed. When I do Option key, I can choose Macintosh HD or Recovery HD and a network.
I hate to say it, but...
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
How do I do that?
It should be an option when booted from the Restore Partition...

But we could try something else first if you wish...

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.
None of that worked. The new account still had no Finder. Is there any software to restore?
Well, the main reason I can't reinstall is because when I get to where it tells me to click "Continue", I can't see it. For some weird reason, the screen zooms in and I can't do anything about it.
Do you nstill have Aplecare & an Apple Store nearby?
Sorry to sound ignorant, but what are those?
AppleCare is the warranty available from Apple, can be 1 year or wxtended to 3 years.
I don't think I have them, but I'm not 100% sure.
