Do you want to backup to iCloud?
This link will show you how to backup to iCloud
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859
3 conditions device must meet before a backup is done with icloud.
1. must be connected to wi fi
2. Must be plugged in to power source
3. Screen must be off.
A backup can take some time so typically most backups are done at night.
You must also have enough space on icloud to complete a back up.
You don't have to meet those conditions to back up manully. You only need to meet those conditions when you are backing up automaticly.
Thanks for response, I have always done 1,2 & 3 - I'm not sure how much space I have on my i cloud though, but back ups never completed so space should be free?
How much free space do you have on iCloud backups?
you still need to be connected to wi fi per the article I linked.
Thanks for response, when I back up manually an error message appears
what does the error message say exactly
Than delete your current iCloud backup and try again.
neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tell someone to delete a backup. DO NOT DELETE YOUR BACKUPS.
just tell me what the error says.
I can't remember exact wording sorry, along the lines of 'back up could not be completed at this time' - no reason given.
get on your phone, go to settings>icloud>storage and backup and try to start a backup.
when the error appears, tell us what it says.
I can't do that, I just tried to back up tonight and my phone started updating automatically and is now in recovery mode and I must restore my phone. My understanding is that all my photos will be lost if I do this. I just wanted to understand why it won't back up to prevent this occuring again.
without knowing exactly what the error says we cant be specific.
And if the phone is in rcovery phone, you must restore it because there is no going back at this point.
