iMac Slow to wake from Sleep condition

Hello. my iMac 10.8.2 has, in the past few weeks, been quite slow from wakening from Sleep Mode. It takes 10-15 seconds before the screen changes from black to an active screen. Another thing is that the cursor is frozen on waking and the mouse has to be clicked to get it mobile again. Recently I had the Hard Drive replaced on an Apple recall basis, but I believe the slow awaking started prior to that. I have called Apple Support but wasnt satisfied with the agents responses. (I will try Apple again with the hope I will get a more knowledgeable agent) Otherwise the iMac has no other delays in it's operation.

Hope someone can assist me on this. Thanks.

Just noticed a couple of things. When I press the power button on the back of the iMac, it wakens normally, ie in about 1-2 seconds. Also

the cursor is not frozen as it is when trying to wake the iMac using a keyboard (wireless one) function.

Hmmmm, interesting...

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when it wakes slowly.

Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

Hi. I hope you're still around.. 🙂

I have the same problem as the original posting, an iMac very slow to wake up from sleep. No hardware changes, and I think this began after the installation of El Capitan. No other issues.

There are gazillion messages in the console log that are beyond my basic user understanding. On the latest Java update, for example, there are ping, network, and install severity codes (the software installed ok). Otherwise there are timeout codes of various kinds.

I would try the steps you gave in your response above, but that is an old posting. Would those steps still apply now?

Thank you.

Thanks for your quick reply, I appreciate it.

I did the NVRAM reset and it did not help. I am now seeing a delay (8-10 seconds) often, wherever I take the cursor (open a link, open a program) and not just out of sleep mode, so there may be something else involved.

I'll try again this weekend with a little more time to sit down and go carefully.
