my new iMac has a password that I don't know

I have a new iMac. It's not letting me download flash or move items to the trash because it keeps asking for a password. I have tried all the passwords I know and nothing will unlock it. To run Adobe Flash so I can play games on Facebook it asks for a password. Won't take anything I enter. What am I doing wrong?
