Stopping Music

When playing music in the Music app, it's sometimes nice that the music keeps playing when the app is "closed" and even when the iPad is put to sleep. This is often very convenient. I often have my Apple BT key board nearby to use as remote control (F7 through F12 keys).

However, with no keyboard, is there any way to pause/ stop/ resume music other than waking the iPad, then launching Music app, then pressing that button on the upper left?

So without BT keyboard, there seems to be one and only one way to stop the music?
