Q: where to find lost data windows 7 contacts

I have iphone4, recently did a backup on win7 so I could upgrade to ios6.1(latest) but when I went to recover all my data... where my iphone had my name it now said Unknown and I cant figure out  where my contacts are. I REALLY need to get my data/contacts back ASAP. Can anyone give me easy instructions on how to fix this problem?

There's a messy history of saving my data to Desktop PC (now broken) *sob* and another netbook WinXP (not enough storage space);  my ex-spouse broke my neck (lucky I survived & in recovery myself). So if more detail is needed please let me know, hopefully that will do.

I appreciate any help given, thank you in advance!

The data is only where you put it.

If there are no backups and you have chosen to not use the device as designed, there is no way to recover the non-existent data.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer (via iTunes), to a cloud service, or Exchange server.

If the device has been used as designed, simpy set up contact syncing on the device and sync the contacts back.
