My wife is receiving all texts sent to and from my phone - that are not being texted specifically to her. Why is her phone getting duplicate info from mine? If she sends me a text, she gets 2. Weird.

Messages settings
Go to Settings > Messages to set options for Messages, including:
• Turning iMessage on or off
• Notifying others when you’ve read their messages
• Specifying an Apple ID or email address to use with Messages

• Specifying an Apple ID or email address to use with Messages
Because you both are using the same Apple ID.
Same Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Stores is okay to share Music, Apps and Books.
For other Apple services like iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud your wife should use her own Apple ID.
