When I rent a movie, while playing it does not span the entire TV screen. Black bands appear on the right and left sides. Please help
I have currently rented a movie which is in standard definition

That is because the film is 4:3
If you want it to fill your screen you need to change your TV settings, though it may distort the picture

You would need to refer to your tv manual as each model is slightly different.
Apple TV simply displays the content natively and that is what is recommended. If you want to stretch the image you need to do so manually.
