my macbook pro (with retina) has stalled whilst installing an update of mountain lion, the blue bar has stopped progressing, it has frozen and hasn't moved, I can't cancel the installation, I can't shutdown the computer, can't restart it, nothing...help!

    If you see that, after some minutes, the bar doesn't progess, go to Apple menu > Force Quit and close App Store or Installer, and try to install it again. If you can't do anything, hold Power button until your Mac turns off

    To the OP - I had a upgrade from the App Store 'stall' on me last week - I couldn't even Force Quit the App Store app. I ended up just powering down with the power button and when I logged back into the App Store, the update finished downloading in seconds and I was ready to begin installation.


    Try that and see if it works for you...
