Install disk 2 problem Leopard.

I have erased the hard drive and started to re-install the system (Leopard) from the original disk on an Intel imac . Unfortunately, when I got to Install Disk 2 it will not read it. It has been stuck lke this for some time now and have tried a range of things. The Mac completely ignores the keyboard whatever I press and I cannot get it to work as a slave over firewire. Despite fresh discs etc I cannot get any further than insert disk 2. Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

You must power off, bootup holding Mouse bitton down to eject Disc AND Option key to bring up Startup choices, insert Diac #1 & wait for it to show up...

That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

Thanks BDAqua but that does not work. I did not know about the problem with disk 2 until a few months ago and if I had I would certainly have done a custom/minimal install. I have been using Macs since 1988 and have worked as a consultant fixing other people's macs but I cannot find a way round this problem? What I need to do is erase the hard drive somehow. I tried using a high power magnet where I think the hard drive is but to no avail.

Did you get it rebooted with Disk #1 un it & hold alt key to boot from Disk#1?

When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
