Why 3 TB HDD shows only 800 GB

Why my new Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB-HDD is shown in "Festplattendienstprogramm" only with 800 GB? The HDD is in an extern Case and should work with Firewire!

Is there any way to get 3 TB or have I to send back the HDD?

I've tried it this morning but Diskutility showed the the following screenshot:User uploaded file

There was only one partition with about 800 GB. Do you know what happened and how I can get the full 3 TB. I thought, the 800 GB-problem of 3TB-HDDs happens only with Windows XP but not with Apple. Can it be, that the Seagate ST3000DM01 with SATA III has problems with the external case, it is about three years old.

Today I got a new case for the HDD for 3 TB HDDs. In the Disk Utility it was shown wirh 3 TB and 1 Partition with 800 GB. Trying to expand the Partition to 3 TB an errormessage told me that the media could not be deactivating. I tried to delete the partion but I've got the same message.

Does anyone know what to do?
