You may have to take the MBP to the Apple store to have it checked out.
Swollen battery may cause this problem.
Can you use an external mouse?
If it's not a swollen battery problem - and I would do as dominic23 suggests and take the machine to an Apple Store for a full check-up - then you can replace the trackpad on your own. Both ifixit and PowerbookMedic have the parts and instructions available.
But get to the Apple Store first for a diagnosis.
