how do I gift a playlist in itunes 11

Hello, I'm trying to give a playlist as a gift, and all the info I've found is not working. I've found info the you select the playlist > go to menu > store > Share playlist - but when I go to the menu > store > there is NO option for Share Playlist. Any advice? - thanks!

Apple Support confirmed to me that iTunes 11 does not have the ability to gift a custom playlist.

So your options are unfortunately limited to:

1) Use another computer where iTunes 10.x is still installed.

2) Downgrade iTunes from 11 to 10.x (there are some tutorials on the web, not that easy)

3) Use iTunes 11 and gift each song in the playlist individually (receipient gets one "redeem" email per song and you have to punch in lots of information).

That is unfortunately it right now. And please leave feedback to Apple. I did.

I agree, this is a real problem - I wanted to give a playlist (NOT individual songs) as a gift to a friend and I can't do it.

If Apple want people to start e-mailing music files without paying for the gift then they're going the right way about it!

I've sent my feedback to Apple both through their feedback site and on Twitter, and I'm posting it here too... put this option back please Apple!!

Not sure what you're asking here? Why is it not ideal, or why do all this?

If you're asking why it's not ideal - well - you got me!

If you're asking why do all this - I suspect you've not kept up with the thread, as I sent you

response way back on Dec 9, which you never responded to. Saying to simply Right-Click the Playlist name.

...This does not work. If you're in Itunes 11 - try it and see. Check it out before responding. As you can see from all the other responses - everyone is having the same issue.

Why burn a CD then RIP it?

I left feedback for Apple and Tweeted them too. Software updates should ADD features not subtract. I spent all weekend making a mix for a friend, tweaking it to get it just right...and now there's no way to "gift" it. So shortsighted on Apple's part. My only option is too burn a CD and give that to him so he can burn it. Easily 25 bucks worth of songs. That's revenue Apple (and the artists) will never see. This doesn't make sense to me.

Completely agree. iTunes as a product has steadily been degraded over time. Dumb move on their part because users are getting savvier and thus can go elsewhere to get these features and buy their music.

For the record, I'm doing just that on Amazon:

Give an Amazon MP3 Gift

Most Amazon MP3s in the Amazon MP3 store can be given as a gift. Gift recipients can either save their music to Amazon Cloud Player and download it, or exchange it for an Amazon.com Gift Card.

To give an Amazon MP3 as a gift:

  1. From Amazon.com, go to any Amazon MP3 detail page.
  2. Click Give as a Gift under the Buy button.
  3. Your Amazon MP3 gift will be sent to the e-mail address you enter shortly after the order is placed.
