How do I change iTunes 11 album view to an album list view rather than tiles?

No better way to say it then how it says. This is ********, I've never had such a huge problem with iTunes until this update. I want it to list each album, with the artwork shown as a list, not as some tile that I have to click on. I hate this view.

Additional information: Here is an image of what I want my library to look like. I want it grouped exactly like this but cannot figure out how to make it go back to this view so if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I know that before the update there were four buttons located between the now playing window and the search bar but they seem to have disappeared. Thanks again if anyone can help. Also, please ignore the iTunes warning popup window, I have corrected that issue already.

There are sites that host down-rev copies of iTunes -- I won't post them here as that may violate the TOU. Just know that such sites exist, and as long as you recover the iTunes library file that was backed up by iTunes when you did the version 11 installation, you'll be back to where you were on iTunes 10 (but with loss of any library changes since you did the update to 11).

Look for the folder "Previous iTunes Libraries" under your main iTunes folder. In there you'll find a file named "iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd.itl", where "yyyy-mm-dd" is the date you did an iTunes update -- just grab the latest copy, rename it by removing the date, and replace the "iTunes Library.itl" file in your iTunes folder with this copy. Do that after closing iTunes 11 and before installing iTunes 10. Once you re-boot under iTunes 10, it should look just like the day you did the update to 11.

I absolutely hate the album view. I prefer the older with th ealbum listed to the left side and the content on the right. Also, importing is not initially finding artwork. 'Get artwork' tells me to log into store, I do and then what? Nothing. Also, when I imported songs and wanted to put them together, on the option Get Info, at the bottom I could add Genre, part of compilation and click 'Next' to go the next song. NEXT is no longer there so I have to right click on every song and get info- over and over. If Apple thinks this is an imporvement, I beg to difer.

With the exception of the descriptions of the display modes the Grouping tracks into albums article remains relevant to iTunes 11. You can usually select multiple songs and edit common properties at the same time. If the Next/Last buttons on single track get info. don't appear then switch to a different view, they still work in some of them.

iTunes 11 is actually horrendous. I've just updated to a Windows 8 laptop and I thought that was bad but I can find my way around that easier than I can the new iTunes! Awful! I'm not averse to change but making it more difficult for users to find their way around is just not acceptable. It's not even obvious how to pause a song that's playing anymore! The only way I have worked out is to double-click it. Thanks for the worst update in histrory, I am not even going to bother finding my way around it, I will just use it to back up my iPhone and that's it.

Sadly the old Album List view has gone, along with Cover Flow. Apple won't read your request to restore the removed features here, that should go via iTunes Feedback.

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:

  • Ctrl+B to turn on the menu bar
  • Ctrl+S to turn on the sidebar
  • Ctrl+/ to turn on the status bar
  • Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
  • Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)

Should you feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.

See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

For everyone out there who doesn't like the new itunes, I don't know how much they watch this forum but please go to their feedback page if you haven't already and give itunes your feedback on what you don't like about itunes version 11. Hopefully, if they get enough feedback they will listen to the people who use it. Use the link below if you don't know the site. I have gone to it twice to tell them of my issues and rate the product (gave it a 2). http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

I absolutely HATE the new iTunes UI and the lack of the album list view.

It is really annoying, especially how they change it with the updates. It really messes up the way things are categorized and floods you with all these stupid album icons which makes it total overload and makes it a mess to search.

I hope Apple realizes that there is a difference between my MAC and my iPAD and to stop making all these unncessessary changes and forcing the iOS UI down my throad. My mac isn't an iPad and I don't want it to be.

So frustrating.

I used to love Apple and stand behind them but something has seriously gone wrong in there.

I am quite irritated with iTunes 11. I can't get used to it. I hate it. I don't know what this sudden obsession with 'tiles' is. Seems like every software wants to use pictures for everything. Smart phones, tablets, and the worst of all Windows 8. Who did they design this crap for? People with a 10 second attention span? But I digress...

Seriously, I don't need that and I don't WANT that. I like list view for EVERYTHING. Songs, Albums, Artists, Genres, Videos... EVERYTHING. These pictures of everything are killing me, espeically when the album art isn't right anyway and you have about 2600 albums. Who the **** wants to look at 2600 album covers at the same time? The Artist view is just as bad.

If I want to go in and look at album art, I will 'Get Info'. If I want to watch a video, I don't need to see a picture of it first.

All of it would be fine if they at least gave you an option to change back to list view, but so far the only thing I've been able to get in list view is Songs, Movies, TV shows.... even Apps has the option to view in a List. Why give that option on all of those and not on the music (which, by the way, was the point of the iPod to begin with)? You would think it would be in 'Show View Options' but it isn't. It's very frustrating.

And the problems with playing movies without it crashing aren't helping. No matter which 'fix' I try, it still doesn't work.

PLEASE give us back the option for lists.
