How do I publish an iCalendar on my website?

I want to publish my iCal calendar to my website but am having trouble figuring it out. Is it possible to do so that my students can view deadlines, etc.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

You can't do this to an ordinary website. You can publish in iCal, but only from a calendar under 'On My Mac', and since MobileMe is defunct it has to be to a CalDAV server. If you publish to an ordinary server you will simply get a confusing-looking text file.

There aren't many CalDAV servers about, so you may have some difficulty finding one. A better alternative is to share an iCloud calendar publicly. This doesn't require your readers to have an iCloud subscription, but they will have to use a CalDAV client to read it - iCal is one, and Google Calendar is another (this requires a login but is free).

For information on sharing an iCloud calendar please see

and expand 'Share a calendar publicly'.
