iPhone stuck indexing in Ford Sync

I bought a 2013 Ford Focus in September. My iPhone 4 (current iOS) has worked perfectly with Ford Sync connected via USB, playing my music without a hitch. Then, about a week ago, when I selected USB with my iPhone conencted as I usually do, it got stuck in a perpetual "Indexing" mode. I have tried Master Reset several times to no avail. There does not seem to be any updates available for my SYNC version. Any thoughts? Anyone?

Ok, so I spent the last week trying to get my 160 Gb ipod classic to work. I had constant indexing. I tried everything from master reset to pulling the fuse - NO luck! Then, today, I was exploring the sync 3 (which did recognize my ipod) and if I tried browsing, I got the "cannot browse while indexing" message. I scrolled down the list, though, and saw "explore ipod". I tried that and it took me back to the selection of "genre" "playlists", "artists", etc. I tried to select again and it worked!! I couldn't believe it, so I disconnected all, closed down the ipod and car, and got back in and started from scratch. I scrolled down to "explore ipod", then selected "genre" and EUREKA!! It worked. But if I tried just selecting "genre" or whatever without first going to "explore ipod", I got the message "cannot browse while indexing" message.

Master Reset in SYNC is a joke. What you will need to do

is to kill power to the SYNC system to do a real hardware reset.

Either pull the battery cable or locate the fuse for the SYNC

system and head unit and pull them, wait a minute then reinstall.

This has been an occasional or sometimes chronic problem with

the Ford SYNC system. Sometimes it just gets lost. It can happen

with any device attached via USB, be it iPhone, Android or Winphones.

My experience is quite different. Ford Focus 2012 with iPhone 4S and all the latest updates on both. The system does not recognize the USB. the system allows Bluetooth calls but cannot connect to Bluetooth for audio. The system will not hang up a phone call even though the call has actually ended on the phone. The system locks up. The system reboots after plugging in a USB again.

I have done master resets and I have pulled the fuse several times. Some of the problems will go away after that but ALL of the problems will return and usually within a few days or less.

Is this being addressed as a safety concern? I for one am going to have an accident screwing around with this thing

I had the same problem with my iphone and my Expedition over the weekend. I tried everything to try and fix the problem. I was about to take it to the dealership today when it started working again. I had read every blog regarding this issue. On one blog it mentioned that it happened when their fuel was low, which was the case when it happened to me. I didn't pay much attention to this comment at the time, but this may have tripped the electrical system. Now that I have a full tank the problem resolved.

I installed the latest Sync software overhaul and update just 2 weeks ago (September 2013) and there was a second update done at the dealer. The system is far improved now and I get better recognition of the iPhone through the USB cable, less hangs, so whatever bugs they fixed they must have fixed.

I also must note that they did replace the entire hardware package that runs the Ford Sync system several months ago to address the problems, so it is possible that I got a newer hardware package thn the original and along with the softwar eupdates, it might have taken care of the bugs.

This worked for me! I had indexing… all the time (it would play music while indexing but no control with SYNC)

I tried Master Reset didn’t work.

I pulled the panel under the glove box and then pulled back some black material and opened the fuses. Looked up in the manual the SYNC fuse (mine was 3rd up) and then put it back after a minute. I thought that I did it wrong when the time was still set but I connected my iPhone with USB and it works. Now I can say "play track her strut" and it works!

Thanks.
