Why does ipad mini charge to 90% and stop charging?

Even with overnight charge, my ipad mini charges to max 90%. Sometimes, it gets to 100% but its rare. Is it a bug. Should I upgrade IOS or something.

iPad, iOS 6.0.1

Thanks for your reply
That was what I was told too!
I was so frustrated bcos when I made those phone calls
The calls wer re routed to USA, Australia n don't know what country !
They gave me a 3 different answers

Btw, yvonneng

How long did u need to wait before the adaptor arrived?

Did u need to surrender your 5w adaptor to them until the 12w adaptor arrive?
Thanks!

The order + deliver is abt 2 days... By right, one working day shld be ordering part another day shld be able to collect, again that depend.

U were consider lucky as in they replace u a 12w adaptor which able to charge ur ipad quicker. I was replaced with an exact 5w adapter which believe to be an iPhone 4S adapter.

At least, my problem solves.

Maybe I know which country u from?

I am from Singapore
How abt u ?
I am not sure IF they will replace me with a 5w or 12w too?

I will need a trip to find out !

The 1st call centre told me (Australia) that the box should come with a 10w adaptor
Then another time the USA centre tell me the adaptor is a UNIVERSAL voltage
Only today, I was able to be put thru the Singpore centre !
Btw, how long u take to charge to 100%
I will need at least 4 to 5 hrs ok? Sigh

Thanks !

I got my 2 charger replaced in two days. Am in Malaysia though. They will replace it with another 5w. WOrks like a charm now.

Charging time for me takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. Don't think it takes that long and I usually charge when the battery is less than 10%.

I have a System app installed so that it trickle charges my device at the end. Helps to prolong the batt life. I had the first gen iPad since the day it was launched. To date it is still running about 6 hours or so (it just lacks memory and crashes quite often cos of that).

That aside I've done some reading. Apparently a higher voltage charger may cause your battery to deteriorate faster. So I stopped using my 12w charger to charge the mini unless really necessary. I rather wait then have a device with a short life span. I'm sure there are reasons why the charger has less voltage. If anyone has a better answer/experience perhaps you can share.

Anyhow my device works approx 1 to 1 half days depending on how frequent it is used (which is quite frequent in my case. I surf, game, read comics, books, youtube, fb). Using the wifi and 3G version. The battery really dies fast only if you go on 3G (don't have LTE here yet that supports apple products). That aside it's awesome no matter what you do.

Hi im from the Philippines and encountered the same problem as you guys wherein the iPad Mini Charger Adapter (5V / 1A) charges up to 90% then stops right there with the charging logo gone, everytime i plug it in. But after using my iPhone 4S Charger with the same specifications, was able to charge my iPad Mini to 100% twice!

Therefore Apple send us a faulty / defective Charging Adapters that came with the iPad Mini unit. Will be visiting the Apple Store today to see if they would have it replaced.

I had the same problem, I sent in to apple service centre and they said everyting was ok. I brought it back and it was just a before. Then one day I was charging my iPad mini it happened again, so I disconnected the charger pulled it out of the socket and pushed it back again and switched it on again and guess what it charged till 100%. Now when ever I have this problem I will do the same and it works, I guess it is the charger head that is faulty.

Why does ipad mini charge to 90% and stop charging?
