Why does ipad mini charge to 90% and stop charging?

Have you tried a reset to see if it charges (and/or the indicator updates) after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If you are on IOS 6.0.1 as your tagline suggests then you are on the up-to-date version

I got the similar problem before and hope the following can help.

One day night, I suddenly decided to use the charger of my iPhone 3GS to charge my problematic new iPad Mini that has 90% charging problem. It has the same appearance and same output (5V , 1A) as the charger came with my new iPad Mini. Strangely, I found it worked and could fully (100%) charge my iPad Mini at one go when I waked up next early morning. I guess the 90% charge problem is probably due to some problematic chargers instead of iPad Mini.

As it takes time to spend the battery power and charge another times using different chargers to prove whether the problem is due to the charger, I don't know if my finding is a real solution. I hope any one, if meets the problem, can try himself/herself by using another charger (say from iPhone 3 or 4 or even from another iPad Mini) to see if the problem is really from charger.

I hope that your result can be shared with me.

If at the end the problem is proved from individual charger, replace it to solve.

Same problem, charging until 90-93%, the charging stop! It is charge with ipad mini came with adapter.

1. Brand new ipad mini came with 80% remainning batt life, drained it to 0%. Charge it with came with adapter. And stop at 93%

2. Drained it again to 0%, charge it with ipad mini came with adapter, stop at 90%.

3. Factory reset by Apple Store, charge it with original adapter from 59% left, it went up and stop to 90% only.

4. Drained it to 50%, use iphone 4S adapter, reached 100% successfully.

5. Drained it to 0%, use iphone 4S adapter, reached 100% successfully.

Seems like Apple shipped problematic adapter to many of us..

Called twice to Apple call centre.

Visited Apple store once =(

Going to visit again since I schedule an appt for adapter replacement!

Disappointed with Apple quality management.

I m having same problem too

Just got the mini less than a week!
1st time charged few days ago stopped at 90%
I had to unplugged n recharged to 100%
Today again same thing happened

Stopped charging at 90%
I had to unplugged n continue charging till it reached 100%
If the fault lies with the charger, Apple should have it recall n replace us with new chargers instead

This is my 1st IOS product n it will be my last too

Called apple support earlier

Was asked what voltage my adaptor?

Checked it out n it was a 5 v

Was told to to exchange for a 10v

Can't they mail it to us just like in Australia?

So this is covered under warranty? I have two iPad minis and with similar issues.

Same here. My iPad mini stops charging at 95% but when i used the charger for my iPhone it charged to 100%.

Yup that definitely works but the question now is am I able to have the charger replaced? I can't be charging two iPad minis using one charger and defeats the purpose of even owning those two chargers that came in the box. Mine is also the 5V charger

I called the local (singpaore) apple centre n was given a toll free hotline to call n later after calling found out fm the call center that it was at Australia
I was told to go down to the local apple service centre to have the adaptor replaced with a 10w since the one I had was a 5w adaptor
So I called the local (singapore) service centre again n this time I was told to bring the mini n adaptor down for a check up

I will be going down next week

This is my 1st IOS product

I will need to unplug n go to another socket to continue charging to 100%!!!

I just called our local service and I was told I will need 2 trips
One to return the 5w adaptor
2nd trip to collect the one to one exchange 10w adaptor
My question is, since we were given the wrong 5w adaptor instead of 10w adaptor
WHY cant Apple INC shipped in the 10w adaptor so customers like us NEED not make 2 trips but one trip to have it exchange on the same day ???

I understood your frustration.

Yes, I solve the problem by changing the power adapter.

I request the distributor to order the part for me and when the thing come I do a one to one exchange.
