ibook won't connect to wifi

please someone help!!

i have an old ibook 10.4.11 which i pulled out after not using for a couple of years to give to my son. Everything works fine EXCEPT i cannot get it to connect to wifi through airport. If i plug it in directly, i can get internet no problem.

When i put in all the details through network assistant, it keeps telling me that there is a network error or that i have put in the wrong password. I have been hacking away for the past 5 hours and got nowhere! I see many previous posts on exactly the same issue and have tried putting the $ in front of the password, rebooting the modem etc... no avail!!

Would really appreciate some advice in simple terms 🙂

Hello,

Which version of the iBook do you own? You can select from the list in this link?

Also, has your wireless been set to WPA2 encryption security?

The chances are, if you are using an iBook G3, the Airport card installed is not compatible to WPA2 wireless encryption. This may explain why it's not connecting.

let us know what model you have, so we can diagnose further to help you.

Amazing... the white knights of Mac!!

ok, i believe i have the G4 900MHz Pwer PC 14" (if you measure diagonally). It did work or connect through wifi previously (about 2 or 3 years ago).... anyway, its connected via Airport through a Bigpond account on WPA Personal Wireless Security with a password. Once i type in the password i get a note saying there was an error joining the AirPort Network on Bigpond#...

If it helps, on Network Diagnostics, under Network Status, the only green light i have is for AirPort, all the rest ie. Airport Settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and Server all failed with red light.

thank you!
