the camera suddenly stopped working

Try resetting the iPad. HOld down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider, and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.

Try closing the Camera app:

1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar

2. Hold down the Camera app for a second or two until you see the minus sign

3. Tap the minus sign to close app

4. Tap area above Task Bar to return to Home screen

If the above doesn't solve the problem, do a reset:

Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

My dad's ipad 2 has the same issue. The shutter on the screen that opens so you can take a picture is in the closed position. I tried closing the camera app then reopening, hard reboot, restoring to factory defaults (treating it like a new ipad). Nothing has worked. Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? is it a glitch in the new OS 6 update?

I accidentally dropped my iPad 2 about 3 feet high. I dropped it last night and I tried my camera app today and It wont work. I have some photography apps and used it, the front camera works but the back doesnt. I havent tried to restore it but I hard-reset it. Please help? I think its a hardware problem. I still have my warranty, do you think they will fix it? Please reply asap. Thank you.

It is a hardware issue. If you have AppleCare, they will fix it or replace the iPad. Contact support to get a repair number. Backup iPad before taking it in.
