my ipod shuffle won't start

I have tried to switch it on and off for up to 1 minute, I connected it to several ports and even a wall plug and checked that it was plugged in securely. It does not seem to charge and when connected to computer icon does not appear. If I put the ear plugs in, no music is heard.

It is an apple store botught item, 2 month old, which makes it a 4the generation shuffle I think.
