How to undo automatic deletion of messages from Mail trash?

My mail account (in Mail 4.6) automatically deletes messages I've moved to the trash after one week. In Mail preferences, I've selected "Never" next to "Permanently erase deleted messages when," yet the messages are still being deleted. How can I stop this?

I have the same issue. In my Mail settings I have also selected "Never" as the above person said. And the emails are gone within 7 days.

I also checked my iCloud settings and noticed that in the settings there it says that messages will be automatically deleted after 30 days. And this cannot be changed. This is a major problem for me.

Is there some kind of workaround for this?
