The exception has become the rule: Safari is hanging often, and can only be resolved on "force reloading"
I've tried resetting...but that is to no avail.
Can you help?

I would probably trash a preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart.

I find, after much searching, the preferences folder, but I can find no such safari file within.
Am I looking in the right place?

That preference file is located in your home folder. In finder, click on go while holding down the option key. Select library>preferences.

aha. Well, i trashed the preferences file as you suggested.
Launched Safari, first page came up without incident.
Clicked on another bookmark...and it stalled/hung/went for coffee...whatever you want to call it.
alas. Any other ideas? thanks for your help, nonetheless!
one other tidbit....i did a "force reload" after one page stalled out
page loaded, and then several other clicks on other bookmarks loaded without incident
would that indicate anything?

You need to click on your Hard Drive icon,upper right. Then press the Apple key along with the letter " i " key. (That's how you get info on a file. ) Down at the bottom of the top information, do you see two check boxes, one saying 'Open in 32-bit mode," and another saying "64 bit mode?" If you do, check the 32-bit mode box.
