WD My Passport 2TB: tips, tricks & gotchas please?

I confess. I am weak. Prone to temptation. Costco had them on special. Couldn't resist. So the computer bag has a new denizen. A Western Digital My Passport 2TB buspowered drive. Too cute to even begin to describe it humming in your hand. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=640

Now that I have succumbed, come the questions:

What's your personal experience with the drive? Positive/negative experiences?
Which is better, use the included Smartware backup software, or OS X's own Time Machine (besides a clone in a separate partition)?
Is the onboard encryption really trustworthy and secure? Not that I need to keep the CIA at bay, but thieves for this gear abound.

Saludos Patron, No Western Digitals in my collection so I can only comment on Time Machine. Not 100% perfect but I swear allegiance to it due to its ease of implementation and use.

Before Leopard (and Time Machine) I used an Iomega HDD for backup. The software that came with it, which ostensibly would perform automatic updates, had directions that I failed to comprehend and my solution was to throw away the disk and drag and drop. But at that time, my internal HDD was only 120 Gb.

I note that your profile mentions a "Widescreen" display. Be advised that only 17" MBPs have such displays. 15" displays might have high resolution displays, but no widescreen displays. No Corona for you!

Au contraire, mon ami, it is you who are uninformed as to the official nomenclature. I quote a snipped portion of the corresponding options screen on the Store: User uploaded file

And of course, nowadays only the survivors can carry the moniker. Dinosaurs remain in the museum.

Su santidad; OH PEDOS! An obvious misuse of nomenclature in part of the Apple technical writers. I refuse to supplicant myself. BAHH!
