What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen

If your Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should do in advance - before you lose it or it's stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

My phone was stolen 2 days ago and the thief turned my phone off so that I am unable to find it the "find my phone" app even though I have programmed for data to be erased when it is connected to the internet. I have been checking regularly and the answer on the app is that the iphone is offline. I have cancelled my number of course. But I am concerned about the thief accessing the information on my phone ie emails that have already been downloaded

Can someone please advise me as to the following?

a) is it likely that the thief is able to operate the phone with a new sim and thus evade detection on the "Find my phone" app?

b) can he access the downloaded emails and other personal data on the phone despite the number being cancelled?

c) What precisely can a thief do with the phone and the information contained within it? ie what can he access?

d) is it likely to be the case that I shall never find the phone on the "find my phone app"?

Many thanks
