iPhone 4 iCloud Backup problem

My iPhone 4 is taking hours to backup to iCloud. I purchased more storage yet it's still taking long. What can I do? 😟 I just received my replacement phone because the sleep button on the top of my old phone stopped working but I want to back it up before I erase everything on the phone and return it to Verizon. Please help, anyone 😐
